Since its founding in 1996, the IZfG has been committed to sustainably embedding gender studies topics and issues in teaching and research, while linking existing projects.
The IZfG organises numerous academic events - including conferences, research colloquia, lectures, and readings - and supports gender studies projects at the University of Greifswald. In teaching, the IZfG oversees the core module Gender Studies as part of the Optional Studies section of bachelor's degree courses at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. With AFTER HOURS, the IZfG has established a format that offers evening events aimed at a wider public audience.
The IZfG is an institution that belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, but that operates on an interdisciplinary basis across all faculties. The IZfG is currently collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine (InkE) and the Graduate Academy of the University of Greifswald on the BMBF-funded research project, Inclusive Excellence in Medicine (InkE).
