- The IZfG is a cross-faculty, interdisciplinary research unit at the University of Greifswald.
- The IZfG aims to establish and promote gender studies in teaching and research at the university.
- Members of the IZfG include researchers and students at the university with an interest in gender studies. They are represented by an elected board.
- In addition to offering classes as part of optional studies, the IZfG organises academic conferences, research colloquia, and study days on gender studies topics. It also supports publications and exhibitions on women's and gender studies.
- The IZfG has also established the AFTER HOURS event series, accompanied by a lecture series and a feminist forum that lasts through the (summer) semester.
- The IZfG maintains a specialised literature collection of over 3000 books and journals on interdisciplinary women's and gender studies. These are available for academic use by members of the university community in the Central University Library (1st floor). The individual works can also be borrowed.
